As The Years Advance

As The Years Advance

By John Malcolm

Zero hour

They arrived sometime during a war. They were discovered, and buried. This didn’t bother them, as they would have buried themselves anyway. They who were one. A hive mind made up of miniature thoughts and instinct, each one a sort-of miniature individual. Small-minded taken to extreme. Evolved for one thing.

One

Julie remembered. It was almost one year since she had had that funny turn in the Mall. A few, possibly unrelated, months later, and the Mall had been demolished for being built on some sort of strange top secret WW2 dump. There had been some theories in the local papers and on the local TV, but no-one (who really mattered) was saying anything. The story died.

Midnight. It was now one year. Why Julie was remembering this to the day was strange; she normally had a bit of a colander mind. Then the feeling started. It was a bit like a cross between an orgasm and having your head removed with a blunt power saw. It was a good job she was at home. Then a numb pain – but not quite a pain – that felt as if her chest was being ripped apart horizontally somewhere between her breasts and her belly button. A quick push, and there they were. She had four breasts; as simple as that.

“Oh.” A strange state of mind. Detached; vague; interested, but not bothered. These new parts were her, so why complain. It all seemed natural, as if she’d changed her hair style from shoulder-length to waist-length. She was still her, she just looked a little different. It was a good job, however, that she wasn’t entirely large in that department. The new arrivals were not advertising themselves unduly. With a bit of loose clothing no-one would notice. . . They didn’t.

Two

It was the second year. Midnight. Somehow the strange feeling that Julie had felt came again, and she wasn’t surprised. This time it was on her shoulders. A splitting sensation from each side of her neck over her shoulder tip to about three or four inches down her arms. Then it all happened at once. Her shoulders burst – again that non-pain that was numbness – and she noticed an arm growing at great speed from her shoulders. Out, out, out, until it was the same length of her current arms. Then the hand at the end bulged out, and she had four arms. Her shoulders were a split pair, with the rear ones on each side being the ‘old’ pair, and retaining the shoulder blades. The front pair just had a ball-and-socket joint, but were otherwise identical to the rear pair.

“Now I can fondle all my breasts at once!” Again the same detached feeling – this was her. The extra arms would be harder to hide. . . She found ways.

Three

Midnight, and here it comes. Sure enough, the anti-pain started, but this time it was at the base of her spine. Instinctively she lay on her side, and this gave room for the growth to shoot out about three feet behind her. This grew legs, which grew feet, which grew toes, and soon she was a centaur-like being. She looked, but regretfully there was no tail. Maybe that was because this was just a duplication, rather than an adding of something new.

“Hang on, I don’t think like that!” Anyway, standing up seemed so normal. She could walk perfectly. There was no coordination problem. She was sure people would notice this time. The clothing for her extra arms had taken a bit of creative thinking, but had appeared. This, however, would take lots and lots of creative thinking. She’d made friends with the local clothes shop owners– had she something to show them! – and now would be requiring some more strange garments.

Four

What would happen now? She hadn’t got anything else to double up on, had she? Oh yes, she found she had. Midnight, and she fell unconscious.

When she awoke, there was this strange added depth to everything she saw. Solids had extra solidness, and sounds had extra – acoustics. There was the residue of a splitting no-pain between her breasts, and up her upper spine to her neck. Then she caught sight of herself in a mirror. She had two heads.

After visiting the local hospital that morning – she was a local celebrity now – for X-rays, she learned that her spine split into two about a foot below her shoulders, her windpipes enabled either head to breathe while the other one didn’t – ideal for eating and talking at the same time – and this could be achieved with her two throats leading to her single stomach. Her collar bone had adapted to fit, and her ribs had widened to allow the two necks. It all seemed so natural.

Swimming was now a lot more fun – one head above the water breathing and watching where she was going, while the other was underwater having a look around.

Drinking in the local bar, one evening, almost got her barred. She won the Yard Of Ale competition so convincingly by breathing as she just poured it down her neck that the other competitors were a little upset. Then she belched in stereo, which got an enormous laugh and probably saved her neck(s).

She didn’t think, ever, about why the town didn’t enquire more about her enhancements. It was all treated as if she had a slight deformity, but which everyone could get along with.

Five

Midnight – what could be changed now? There was some anticipation that this would be a major one, and she was right. There was proper pain this time. Lots of it, but attached with it a feeling that this must be done. She felt her vagina extend itself from between her back legs, along the underside of her lower back, to between her front legs.

Then she fell on her side, with her legs hanging off the bed. These then proceeded to fall off, one by one, leaving little stumps about two inches long and as wide as the legs at her hips had been. Just enough for her to walk on and keep her new organ off the ground. The pain dissipated, and she walked into the lounge – with its longer carpet. This tickled her enlarged organ in a whole new way and orgasm after orgasm wracked through her body. The whole night was spent just walking around the lounge and having her brains blown out with orgasms. What could better this?

Morning. The doorbell sounded. Julie instinctively knew it was for her – as she was now. She walked to the door and opened it. It was a man. With four arms. With two heads. With a body extending out from the base of his spine. With four two-inch legs. And a penis designed to fit her perfectly. She was ecstatic. So was he.

Now the breeding of the species could continue. It had taken nearly sixty years, but a) who was counting? (time, for seeds, is irrelevant), and b) that continued reproduction was all that mattered.

Wait until she’s pregnant. That’ll be interesting.

Wait until she gives birth!
