Order

The Realm of Order, while ensuring safety and structure, is often perceived by outsiders as monotonous and stifling.

Daily Life

With the High Protocol in place, daily routines for humans are set in stone. They wake up at a predetermined time, follow a structured daily exercise, have designated meals at specific times, and engage in work for a fixed duration. Even social interactions are formalized with rigid greetings, topics of conversation, and methods of addressing one another based on rank and position.

Work and Culture

Agriculture is the mainstay. Given the enhanced fertility, crops grow abundantly with minimal effort. The other major work involves maintaining the infrastructure, which is built to last but still requires some upkeep. Everything in the Realm is made to last forever - tools, structures, and clothing. Craftsmanship, though simplified, emphasizes durability over aesthetics.

Cultural activities are limited. Music, if allowed, consists of chanted hymns. Art, if produced, must adhere to strict guidelines that emphasize symmetry and balance. Dance is almost entirely absent. Literature is primarily religious or instructional in nature.

Relationships

Marriages and relationships are arranged based on compatibility and the needs of the community. Family units are essential for reproduction and raising the next generation. Emotional attachments are allowed but are expected to be subdued and expressed in a controlled manner.

Education

Education is vital, given the emphasis on re-education and memorization. Schools focus on instilling knowledge of the High Protocol, understanding of the Realm's history, and basic skills necessary for farming and infrastructure upkeep. Creativity, critical thinking, and individualism are not promoted.

Trade

While the Realm of Order is mostly self-sufficient, there's limited trade, mainly in durable goods and raw materials not available within the Realm. These are traded for the Realm's abundant produce. The sanctioned ports act as hubs for these activities, where minimal interaction between the Realm's denizens and outsiders is permitted.

Outsiders

For outsiders looking in, the Realm can appear as a utopia with its safety, structure, and abundance. But once inside, many struggle with the loss of personal freedom and the regimented lifestyle. Those who enter willingly often seek solace from the chaos outside, while those taken by angels are assimilated into the society, often losing a sense of their past selves.

Dissent

Dissent is rare, given the intense re-education and the pervasive nature of the High Protocol. However, when it does arise, it's treated not as rebellion but as ignorance. The dissenters are re-educated until they conform. If re-education fails repeatedly, exile becomes the last resort. The exiles often carry tales of their stifled existence, and a few become sleeper agents, working subtly against the Realm's interests from the outside.

Spirituality

Faith in the Hand of the Principle is paramount. Daily prayers, rituals, and ceremonies are conducted to honor and seek blessings. However, the connection is more out of reverence for the order the Hand has provided than any emotional or spiritual bonding.

Culinary Traditions

  • Basic Ingredients: Given the fertile land, the Realm produces a plethora of crops, including grains, legumes, vegetables, and fruits. However, spices and strong flavors are sparingly used, if at all.
  • Cooking Techniques: Techniques such as boiling, stewing, and roasting are preferred, as they emphasize simplicity and preservation of the ingredient's original flavor. Butter is the go-to fat for most cooking.
  • Dairy and Eggs: Dairy plays a major role in the cuisine. Butter, yogurt, cheese, and milk are common components of many dishes. Eggs are often incorporated into meals for added nutrition and variety.
  • Beverages: Fermented beverages are mostly absent, given the strict rules against intoxication. Instead, herbal teas, fresh juices, and pure water dominate the drink scene.
  • Special Occasions: On rare occasions, the society might indulge in richer, cream-based desserts or special breads.
  • Imported Ingredients: While the Realm of Order tries to be self-sufficient, certain ingredients that they cannot produce, such as specific spices or flavors, are imported. They undergo rigorous purification rituals before being integrated into the Realm's culinary sphere.

Healthcare & Medicine

  • Preventative Care: Given the rarity of illnesses, the medical focus is predominantly on prevention. Regular health check-ups, community exercise sessions, and health education seminars are common.
  • Medical Professionals: Healers in the Realm of Order are highly respected, not just for their knowledge but also for their adherence to the High Protocol. Their training is extensive, focusing on anatomy, herbal remedies, and traditional healing methods.
  • Accidents and Illnesses: These are considered deviations from the norm and, by extension, deviations from Order. When someone falls ill or has an accident, it's not just a medical issue but a social one. The affected individual might have to participate in penance rituals, counseling sessions, or community service to make amends.
  • Medical Equipment: In keeping with the Realm's preference for durable and simple technology, medical tools are primarily mechanical. Think of surgical tools, manual blood pressure monitors, and stethoscopes. Electronics, where used, are basic and robust.

Technology & Trade

  • Solar Energy: The amplified solar light provides an opportunity for energy harnessing. Solar panels, being one of the few electronic devices allowed, are imported to power essential services.
  • Machinery: Mechanical devices, from water pumps to grain mills, are the backbone of the Realm's technology. They're built to last and can often be manually operated if needed.
  • Imported Goods: Apart from solar panels, other goods like specific metals, certain fabrics, or rare ingredients might be imported. These goods are kept in quarantine zones where they undergo a series of purification rituals. This ensures that no element of Chaos sneaks in with the imported products.

Seekers of Order

These individuals are tired of the anarchy and unpredictability of the human settlements. They've seen loved ones perish in the ceaseless wars, or perhaps the scarcity of resources has robbed them of all hope. The Realm of Order represents a stable environment, free from the uncertainties and challenges of the mortal world.

  • The Grief-stricken: People who have lost their families and friends and see no purpose in the chaotic human realms. They yearn for a life of structure, even if it's monotonous, because monotony is predictable and safe.
  • The Burnt-out: Warriors, leaders, or simply survivors who've had enough of constantly being on the edge. The thought of routine, even if that routine involves endless paperwork, is appealing.
  • The Seekers of Redemption: Individuals who believe that their sins or mistakes can be atoned for by pledging their service to a higher cause. The Realm of Order offers them an opportunity to serve, and in their minds, to purify their souls.

However, upon arrival, the relentless bureaucracy and hierarchy can be stifling. The endless chain of command and the strict code of conduct can wear them down. Yet, for some, this is still a more preferable existence than the chaos they left behind.

Naming Conventions within the Order

Angelic names: In the Realm of Order, hierarchy is paramount. While Natural and Glorified have a family name, they only use it in writing: in speech they will refer to themselves as "X-lan-Y", meaning, "X, servant of Y", Y being their next most direct superior and X being their first name. Angels have no family name, and their first name is usually taken from this or that mythology. They too use the hierarchical particle. An angel's "full name" is a series of X-lan-Y-lan-Z, invariably ending in -lan-Ahur, or lan-Aleph, to indicate Order's Hand of the Principle; appropriately for a being of Order, it is not only a name, but also an org chart! Examples: Benedict-lan-Zariel for a Saved, Laniel-lan-Phanuel for an Archon (full name Laniel-lan-Phanuel-lan-Lemuel-lan-Gabriel-lan-Ahur)

This naming convention for angels from the Realm of Order reinforces several ideas:

  • The Importance of Hierarchy: By including the superior's name in the angel's own, it becomes clear who answers to whom. There is no ambiguity in their system; everyone knows their place, and everyone knows who commands whom. This ensures clarity in communication and command.
  • Constant Remembrance of the Divine: By always ending with the Hand of the Principle, it serves as a continual reminder to all that, regardless of their immediate superiors, all ultimately serve and answer to the highest power.
  • Identity and Accountability: With this naming system, there's a traceable lineage of responsibility. If there were issues or matters to address, one would immediately know the chain of command that must be followed. It would also allow those unfamiliar with an individual to know their place within the hierarchy and treat them accordingly.

As examples:

  • Benedict-lan-Zariel: Benedict is of a Saved rank and directly serves under Zariel. It also indicates that Zariel has sufficient stature to have direct subordinates.
  • Laniel-lan-Phanuel: Laniel serves under Phanuel. But knowing the full name, Laniel-lan-Phanuel-lan-Lemuel-lan-Gabriel-lan-Ahur, we can trace Laniel's full hierarchy, ascending right up to the Hand of the Principle. This would be particularly useful in ceremonies, official declarations, or situations where demonstrating one's lineage of command is essential.

This naming system also has its challenges:

  • Length: As an angel progresses and the chain of command grows more intricate, their name could become quite a mouthful. In many situations, only the immediate superior's name might be used for brevity, but in formal settings, the full name would be expected.
  • Changes in Hierarchy: In the event of promotions, demotions, or reassignments, there could be substantial shifts in naming. This could lead to a need for frequent reeducation and adjustment among the ranks.
  • Loss of Individuality: This system, while efficient, ties an individual's identity directly to their position within the hierarchy, potentially overshadowing personal achievements or characteristics.

Despite these challenges, the system fits perfectly within a realm where order, structure, and hierarchy are paramount. The constant reminder of one's position and duties serves as both a motivation and a restraint, ensuring the smooth functioning of this celestial bureaucracy.

The Saved as weapons of war

The dynamics between the Realm of Chaos and the Realm of Order are interestingly mirrored in their use of the Damned and the Saved, respectively. Both these groups, on the surface, seem to represent the extremities of their respective realms. However, upon closer examination, there's a blurred line of similarity that runs through them.

The Saved, who are seen as the paragons of obedience, order, and unity, primarily offer spiritual support in battle, which contrasts starkly with the Damned's direct and brutal involvement. This not only solidifies the hierarchy within the Realm of Order but also ensures that the human element remains intact in their operations. Their harmonious choirs, while on the surface seeming to be a peaceful or supportive act, can be viewed as a potent tool for psychological warfare, creating an eerie contrast with the cries of the Damned.

The use of artillery by some of the Saved is an adaptation of the Realm of Order to the evolving nature of warfare, signaling that even the most stringent systems may need to adjust with time. This change is more evident in the naval operations, where the proximity to actual combat is higher. Here, the Saved are more directly involved, reflecting the unpredictable nature of naval warfare and the need for all hands on deck, quite literally.

The most intriguing shift is indeed the use of the Glorified Saved as aerial screeners for winged archons. On the surface, it's framed as an honor – a privilege for the Saved to fight alongside their betters. But the tactical use of these Glorified Saved does parallel the forlorn charges of the Damned, bringing to light the question of whether there are, in fact, some universally strategic (and sacrificial) methods in warfare that transcend the dichotomy of Order and Chaos.

This observation challenges the simplistic dichotomy and highlights the grey areas of strategy and tactics. While the philosophies and motivations of the two realms may be polar opposites, their ultimate objective of victory drives them to adopt methods that may sometimes blur the lines of their inherent natures.

Hierarchy of Order

  • Seraphim: These are the highest order of angels. They have three pairs of wings and are said to be the closest to the Principle of Order. They act as the Principle's direct messengers and enforce the most critical commands. Seraphim rarely appear in any form perceivable by mortals, and their presence often signifies momentous events.
  • Cherubim: Guardians of sacred objects and places, the Cherubim are powerful entities often associated with knowledge and wisdom. They are often depicted with multiple faces and wings, symbolizing their multifaceted nature.
  • Thrones: Thrones are angels of spirit and will. They are seen as instruments of God's justice and authority, ensuring that the cosmos remains in balance.
  • Dominions: Dominions regulate the duties of lower angels. They receive orders from the Seraphim or Cherubim and ensure their execution.
  • Virtues: Often known for bestowing grace and valor upon those in need, they have the duty of governing the celestial bodies and maintaining the natural order of the universe.
  • Powers: Defenders of the cosmos against evil, the Powers are often seen as warrior angels. They confront any external threats and maintain the boundaries of the Realms.
  • Principalities: These angels guide and protect nations or groups of peoples. They oversee large-scale operations and are involved in global events and shifts.
  • Archangels: These are messengers of great importance. They are tasked with larger missions and play significant roles in human events.
  • Angels: The lowest order, these entities serve as personal guardians for individuals. They watch over humans and offer guidance when needed.
  • Cenobiarchs: Human leaders who have proven themselves in service to Order. They are granted special privileges, including command over lesser angels. Their experience as mortals gives them a unique perspective, and their leadership is considered invaluable when it comes to relating to or ruling over Natural and Glorified humans.

The hierarchy of Order is clear-cut, with each rank having its responsibilities. The Principle of Order ensures that each entity in its hierarchy knows its place, duties, and the larger purpose they serve. Each being, regardless of its rank, works in harmony to uphold the tenets of Order, ensuring balance and structure in the face of Chaos.

Agents of Order

In stark contrast to the unpredictable nature of demons, the angels of the Realm of Order follow a structured hierarchy.

  • Amesha Spenta: Comparable to archangels, these are the mightiest of the agents of Order. Their mere presence can influence vast regions, and their command can summon legions.
  • Niyayeshe: Generals and commanders, these angels lead armies against the Realm of Chaos and guide human souls on the Path of Ascension.
  • Fravashi: The bulk of the angelic forces, these guardian angels are often tasked with protecting specific individuals or locales against threats from the Realm of Chaos.
  • Anaghra Raocha: The foot soldiers of the angelic realm, they are the first to respond to breaches in the Shield Wall and often work in tandem with human forces.
  • Apo: Sea captains and commanders of the Leviathans. They are the guardians of the seas and oversee the "backpack" settlements, ensuring safety and fostering the connection between sea and land.

The Hand of the Principle of Order is a figure shrouded in mystery. Unlike its chaotic counterpart Druj, this entity's name remains concealed, only referred to through reverent titles such as "The Supreme Luminary" or "The Beacon of All Existence". Both hands, of Chaos and Order, are paramount in their respective realms and shape the destinies of not only their own kind but also of humanity.

Hierophants

The Hierophants are the polar opposites of Marauders. They are former Sentinels, but instead of Chaos, they have been swayed by the serenity and structure of Order. Their once-worn armors have now been replaced by pristine, white and gold-tinted variants, representing the purity and discipline of the Principle of Order.

Unlike Marauders, Hierophants are afforded independence, which means they aren't bound by the rigid hierarchies of the angelic orders. However, they still hold a sacred mission – to expand the territories of Order and convert the uninitiated. They wield weapons like the Gleaming Glaive, which not only inflicts physical harm but also has the power to momentarily convert the enemies of Order.

The Leviathans of Order

Leviathans are great sea creatures, simply too big to exist naturally -- they could easily give birth to a full-grown blue whale. The magic of Order is required to keep their metabolism in sync with itself. Since agents of Order have no equivalent to sirens and are in general uneasy at sea, they use these majestic monsters to monitor the oceans. Each leviathan can be "crewed" by a village-sized backpack inhabited by Naturals, Glorified and archons, which can, if there be a need, submerge for a few days. Leviathans are used as surveillance platforms, to tow cargo barges full of food, to give archons flying across the Pacific somewhere to land and rest, and simply as a means of power projection, much like carrier groups are in real life. There are five known leviathans, three of which carry a backpack; they do not enter human ports (or the ports of the Realm of Order, for that matter); if needed, the backpack carries lighters for crew transfer. Leviathans subsist on ambient magic and inhale incredible amounts microscopic or just small sea life as they swim, but their overall effect on the ocean ecosystem has been measured to be positive, as they seem to be slowly cleaning up the ocean waters contaminated by the apocalypse and the society that existed before it. A sixth leviathan existed; it was killed by Chaos in a momentous sea battle, brought back with necromancy, and killed again by a concerted human effort.

  • Seraphel: The oldest of the Leviathans, Seraphel is also the most majestic. With a gleaming silver-blue hide, it's often mistaken for a moving island by sailors who haven't encountered it before. Seraphel carries the most populated backpack, known as the Citadel of Tides. It's said that the greatest aquatic library of the new age is housed within.
  • Gabrinth: A more aggressive, serpent-like leviathan with a hide made up of dark green scales which blend seamlessly into deep waters. It's the protector of the fleet, often sent into troubled waters where the influence of Chaos looms. Gabrinth's backpack is known as the Vanguard Bastion, and it's more militarized, focusing on defense.
  • Urielis: With a long, slender form and shimmering gold patterns that light up during nighttime, Urielis is a sight to behold. Its backpack, known as Golden Harbor, is a hub for trade and exchange, often towing large cargo barges.
  • Raphalion: Does not carry a backpack but often travels with Gabrinth. It's the scout of the group, fast despite its massive size, and often the first to detect disturbances in the marine realm.
  • Thronar: Resembling a vast manta ray, Thronar is the calmest of the leviathans. Without a backpack, Thronar often glides close to the surface, allowing smaller marine creatures to ride its currents. It's said to bring good luck to any sailor who sights it.
  • Lucifal: The lost leviathan. Once the pride of the Order's sea dominion, its death and subsequent resurrection by Chaos was a dark moment in the annals of the post-apocalyptic world. The battle to free and subsequently end Lucifal was termed as the "Abyssal Siege". The waters where Lucifal was laid to final rest are now considered haunted and are avoided by most sea travelers.

The presence of the Leviathans has a mystic and powerful effect on the oceans. While they harness the ambient magic for sustenance, their exhaled breath revitalizes the waters, healing the lingering damages of pre-apocalyptic industrial era and the devastating events that followed. However, despite their benefits, their majesty and might also serve as a constant reminder of the power and reach of Order.

Leviathan poop is also a supreme fertilizer. It can't be harvested systematically, but harpooning a chunk of it and selling it to a coastal community for their gardens (above or under water) can be a nice side gig for merchant mariners. The small change in the arcane ecosystemic balance towards Order is offset by the promise of a bumper crop and, logically, a good excuse to put the balance back with a vigorous party. The general scarcity of high-density fuel means that the average newly manufactured cargo ship has more in common with the clippers of the early 1900s than the giant container ships of the early 2000s. The old container ships still exist; they have been retrofitted with sails or wind turbines and solar panels to supplement their old engines, and a few of them have been converted to steam power so that they can burn whatever fuel they find. However, due to fuel scarcity, they can rarely move at full speed -- sailing clippers are faster, and are therefore preferred for passenger service and premium merchandise.

The Leviathan Backpacks: The Migratory Outposts of Order

In the vast expanse of the post-apocalyptic seas, the Leviathans of Order glide gracefully beneath the waves, a stark contrast to the chaos that dominates the lands. These immense creatures, resembling a blend between dragons, whales, and manta rays, are not only guardians of the sea but also mobile bastions for the forces of Order.

The Backpacks: Every Leviathan has the capacity to carry a 'backpack'. These backpacks, despite their name, are colossal modular towns anchored securely to the Leviathans. Made up of a combination of floating platforms, pillars, and connected bridges, these towns are a mix of gothic architecture and sea-faring aesthetics. They house thousands of Order's soldiers, clerics, researchers, and civilians. In these backpacks, the strict discipline and organized nature of the Realm of Order is evident, with every structure, every alley, and every household operating with clockwork precision.

Disconnecting the Backpacks: When a Leviathan wishes to submerge, the backpack is detached and anchored to a nearby location. While disconnected, the backpack transforms the surrounding region into a temporary extension of the Realm of Order. This annexation has a dual purpose:

  • Defensive Strategy: The strong aura of Order repels chaotic entities, providing a protective barrier to the inhabitants of the backpack and ensuring they aren't vulnerable to sudden ambushes.
  • Diplomatic Outreach: This temporary annexation serves as a potential point of contact for negotiations or interactions with nearby factions, tribes, or isolated human settlements.

Life in the Backpack: For those living within, life in a backpack is both regimented and fulfilling. The presence of the Leviathan gives them a spiritual connection to their cause. They engage in tasks like maintaining the backpack, studying marine flora and fauna, praying, and training for defense or potential expansions.

Interactions with the Mainland: On occasion, these backpacks become sites of trade, diplomacy, and cultural exchange. The Realm of Order, recognizing the need to maintain connections with various pockets of human civilization, allows selected visitors to enter. However, these visitors are closely monitored and are only permitted within designated areas.

When the Leviathan Returns: The highlight of living in a backpack is the moment when the Leviathan returns. This event is marked with grand celebrations, religious ceremonies, and a reunion with the massive guardian. As the backpack reattaches, the entire structure vibrates with the celestial energy of the Leviathan, recharging its defenses and rejuvenating its inhabitants.

For many post-apocalyptic seafarers, the sight of a Leviathan with its town-sized backpack emerging on the horizon is a symbol of hope, a beacon of Order in a world teetering on the edge of chaos.

The Shield Wall

The Shield Wall stands as a testament to the might and tenacity of the Realm of Order. It is not just a wall but a symbol of protection, unity, and determination. For the legions and levies of the Realm, defending this wall is not just about protecting their home but also preserving the values and ideals that the Realm stands for.

Structure & Composition:

The core of the Shield Wall is a blend of the Earth's mantle and powerful magic, lending it a foundation stronger than any other man-made fortification. Over the years, this formidable structure has been meticulously fortified with layers of granite and concrete, making it nearly impervious to any kind of assault. The top of the wall is lined with battlements and towers, offering strategic points for archers, spellcasters, and lookouts. Behind the main wall are layers of defensive trenches, moats, and barbed obstacles, ensuring that even if the main wall is breached, the invaders would face a series of challenges.

Defensive Strategy:

The Realm of Order employs a multi-tiered defense strategy:

  • Lookouts & Early Warning System: High towers with a mix of magical sensors and human lookouts keep a vigilant watch on the surroundings. They can detect any approaching enemy long before they come in range.
  • Angelic Champions: These are the elite of the elite, often taking the fight to the enemy. They specialize in disrupting key enemy installations, taking down their leaders, or crippling their artillery, ensuring the Wall faces reduced pressure.
  • Archers & Spellcasters: Positioned on the battlements, they rain down arrows and spells on approaching enemies, breaking their ranks and causing chaos.
  • Infantry: Should the enemy get too close, the well-trained infantry units, armed with swords, spears, and shields, stand ready to repel them. Their discipline and training are unmatched.
  • Siege Equipment: The Wall is equipped with trebuchets, ballistae, and catapults. These siege machines hurl massive projectiles, causing devastating damage to enemy ranks.
  • Secondary Defenses: In the unlikely event that the Wall is breached, invaders face a series of obstacles, from trenches to traps. These defenses are designed to slow down and weaken the enemy, giving the Realm's forces a chance to regroup and launch a counterattack.

The Breaches:

Though rare, there have been instances where the Shield Wall has been compromised. The demons, with their raw power and unpredictable tactics, have broken through a few times. However, the most notable breach was orchestrated by a coordinated human tank division, backed by a platoon of Sentinels. This event serves as a reminder that while the Shield Wall is strong, it is not invulnerable, and constant vigilance is required.

The legions and levies of the Realm of Order understand the responsibility they bear. For them, the Shield Wall is more than just bricks and mortar; it's the embodiment of their spirit and determination to defend their land against all odds.

The Sirens of Order: The Muses

The Muses are a powerful testament to the allure of Order, showcasing that not all temptations are rooted in vice and debauchery. They embody the subtler, more benign seductions that can be just as captivating and potentially more transformative. Here's an in-depth look into their influence:

  • Appearance and Demeanor: Muses appear as ethereal, serene beings with an almost hypnotic presence. Their beauty isn't solely rooted in physical allure but also in the calm and collected aura they exude. They always seem to have things under control, embodying the very essence of Order.
  • Method of Seduction: Unlike the visceral, primal temptations of succubi, Muses appeal to the deeper desires for stability, recognition, and self-improvement. Their method of seduction isn't overt but rather a gentle nudge, a guiding hand steering their chosen artist towards a more structured, disciplined life. The transition is often so seamless that artists seldom realize they are being influenced.
  • The Double-Edged Sword: Initially, artists who are influenced by a Muse experience a renaissance of sorts. Their chaotic lives become more structured, they are more disciplined, and their output increases. However, this comes at a cost. As they continue down this path, their works start reflecting more rigidity and less spontaneity. The raw passion, the unchecked emotions, and the unrestrained creativity that once defined their work begin to fade.
  • The Effect on the Art World: The influence of Muses has had a profound impact on the world of art and culture. They have been both praised and reviled. Critics argue that while the artists they influence produce more, the quality of the work declines. Supporters, on the other hand, appreciate the professionalism and discipline Muses bring to an artist's life.
  • Resisting the Muse: Not all artists succumb to the allure of a Muse. Some recognize the change in their work and actively resist the pull towards Order. They seek the chaotic, the spontaneous, and the unpredictable. These artists often band together, creating collectives or movements that celebrate the unpredictable and unstructured side of creativity. Some even delve into the Chaos realm to balance the scales or seek inspiration.
  • The Grand Design: It's unclear if the Muses have a grander agenda or if they genuinely believe that they are helping artists achieve their potential. Regardless, their influence has sparked debates about the nature of creativity, discipline versus spontaneity, and the cost of structure in the arts.

The Deadly Desert of the Realm of Order

The Deadly Desert, while not instantly lethal, serves as a poignant boundary for the Realm of Order. Here's a more detailed dive into its properties and its significance:

  • Natural Barrier: The Deadly Desert acts as a natural deterrent for any beings, whether from the Realm of Chaos or elsewhere, trying to approach the Realm of Order. The unyielding and stark environment ensures that only the most prepared or desperate attempt to cross it.
  • Harvesting the Sand: The purity of the silica sand has turned it into a valuable resource. Operations have been set up along the inner rim of the desert where specialized teams, equipped with protective gear, venture out to collect the pristine sand. These teams often operate under strict protocols, working short shifts to avoid prolonged exposure.
  • Cultural Significance: To the denizens of the Realm of Order, the Deadly Desert is more than just a geographical feature; it's a symbol. It stands for the isolation and purity of their realm, a stark reminder of the division between Order and the rest of the world. Myths and stories have been spun around those who've tried to cross it, either going in or coming out, and the challenges they faced.
  • Fauna and Flora: The assertion that 'nothing grows there' isn't just a saying; it's a reality. No known form of life, magical or mundane, can sustain itself in the Deadly Desert. The absence of life forms gives it an eerie, otherworldly feel, with shifting dunes of pure white sand stretching as far as the eye can see.
  • Anomalies and Mysteries: Every now and then, expeditions into the desert come across anomalies - strange patterns in the sand, inexplicable readings on their instruments, or mirages that seem a tad too real. While most can be explained away due to the intense sunlight and reflective sand, some remain unsolved, adding to the desert's enigma.
  • Guardians of the Desert: To protect their precious resource and to ward off any intruders, the Realm of Order has stationed guardians at intervals along the inner perimeter of the desert. These guardians are equipped not just with weapons but with tools to assist those who might have become stranded or lost in the desert.

The Constant Luminescence of the Realm of Order

The perpetual brightness of the Realm of Order is one of its most distinct features. With a Sun that never truly sets and a Moon that mirrors the Sun’s luminescence, the realm stands apart in its eternal day. Here's how this phenomenon has impacted the realm:

  • Adaptation: The denizens of the Realm of Order have adapted to this constant state of light. Their internal clocks don't follow a traditional 24-hour rhythm. Instead, they've created a structured regimen based on tasks and responsibilities rather than the natural light-dark cycle.
  • Energy Production: Even though the Moon’s light doesn’t directly power solar panels, the abundance of sunlight means that solar power is still the primary energy source. Large arrays of solar panels are set up across the realm to harness the energy. However, given the occasional hours of darkness, efficient energy storage solutions, like advanced batteries and potential-energy reservoirs, are vital.
  • Agriculture: The plants, over time, have adapted to this peculiar lighting condition. Crops are cultivated in cycles based on their growth needs, and not necessarily the Sun-Moon cycle. However, greenhouses with adaptive shading are also prevalent to replicate natural day-night conditions for certain flora, ensuring that they don’t suffer from overexposure.
  • Cultural Implications: While the Saved and Glorified are encouraged to overlook the rare nights, some denizens of the realm still observe it with curiosity. A subset of artists, philosophers, and thinkers might interpret this event as a metaphor or a rare moment of introspection.
  • Safety Measures: The always-bright environment has its drawbacks. Accidental overexertion, due to losing track of time, can be an issue. Public places and workplaces often have timekeeping devices that play gentle reminders or chimes, prompting breaks or signaling the end of work hours.
  • Architecture: Buildings and living spaces are designed with this constant illumination in mind. Most homes come equipped with adaptive tint windows or blackout blinds, allowing residents to simulate a night environment if they wish to rest.
  • Astronomy and Exploration: The bright Moon makes astronomical observations challenging. Special observatories are constructed, shielded and equipped with advanced technology, to study the stars and other celestial bodies.

Orderlympics: The Pinnacle of Purity

The Stalactite Coliseum: Nestled in the heart of the Realm of Order, the Stalactite Coliseum serves as the primary venue for the Orderlympics. Massive ivory pillars, inlaid with intricate geometric designs, surround the vast ground which gleams under the ever-shining crystal sun. All around, immaculate gardens and pools of crystal-clear water highlight the realm's harmony and precision.

Key Events & Features:

  • Pentakosioi Sprint: A sprinting event inspired by the ancient stadion footrace, but increased to 500 meters to symbolize the Realm's love for orderly numbers.
  • Pythagorean Javelin Toss: Athletes use javelins crafted with precise geometric specifications and aim for a target designed like the Pythagorean theorem triangle.
  • Socratic Discus: A philosophical twist on the discus throw where competitors engage in a brief debate on ethics and balance before making their throw.
  • Heralds of Purity Parade: Every Orderlympics begins with a meticulously choreographed parade of athletes and Order inhabitants, showcasing their cultural and spiritual unity.
  • Prismatic Marathon: Runners navigate a course that takes them through seven distinct biomes within the Realm, each representing a unique element of Order's teachings.

Behind the Scenes:

  • Orderlympic Village: Athletes and coaches are housed in a serene and uniform community. Here, the architecture combines classical Greek aesthetics with modern comfort. Though there's an uncanny feel to its perfection, it's undeniable that every need is met efficiently.
  • Media and Propaganda: Journalists are offered guided tours of the Realm, showcasing its achievements and technological marvels. Interviews with Saved residents paint a picture of contentment and purpose. However, journalists often note the eerie similarity in the responses, almost as if they've been rehearsed.
  • Translucent Airport: The Realm's sole airport, built for the Orderlympics, is a marvel of glass and light. Despite its modern appearance, it exudes a timeless aura. Here, visitors can see the stark contrast between the interstice's rustic tech and the Order's advanced capabilities.

Controversies & Highlights:

  • The Damned Victor: In an unexpected turn of events, a Damned sprinter, with visible burn marks and chains, won gold in the Pentakosioi Sprint. The Realm acknowledged the win gracefully, but many speculated it was a tactic to showcase the fair nature of the games.
  • The Silent Protest: A few athletes from the Interstice wore bands representing the chaotic blend of colors during the parade as a silent protest against the Order's sterilized views. It went unnoticed by most, but whispers of the act spread among the visitors.
  • The Guided Tour Incident: A curious journalist strayed from a guided tour and discovered an area showcasing potential future plans for the Interstice. It was a controlled display, but the implications were clear: Order had visions for a more extensive reach.

Despite its controversies and the underlying tension, the Orderlympics serve as a testament to the Realm of Order's capabilities and vision. It's a spectacle that the Interstice watches with a mix of admiration, skepticism, and unease.

The Classical Olympics in the Realm of Order

Every four years, the ethereal gates of the Realm of Order creak open, revealing an ancient world bathed in serene luminescence. The Olympic flame, untouched by time, glows ever-bright, signaling the commencement of the Classical Olympics.

The Venue: Constructed with divine precision, the Olympic venue is a sprawling arena, echoing the grandeur of ancient Greece. Grand marble columns, with intricate inscriptions, stand tall, surrounding a vast central field. All around, arenas and gymnasiums are erected for specific sports, each architectural masterpiece in its own right.

The Opening Ceremony: The games are inaugurated with grandeur. Chariots drawn by magnificent creatures gallop around the stadium. Priests and priestesses carry forth the torch, the flame passed from hand to hand, drawing a pattern of golden light in the dusk till it ignites the colossal cauldron. The ethereal music of lyres and flutes fills the air as dancers, dressed in traditional robes, perform a ballet retelling the history of the Olympics and the Realm of Order.

The Events: While the games predominantly focus on the classical sports like javelin throw, discus, wrestling, and foot races, there are some modern inclusions. Every sport, however, emphasizes discipline, precision, and the nobility of fair play.

  • Pankration: A blend of boxing and wrestling, it’s one of the toughest events. Participants show extraordinary skill, strength, and strategic prowess.
  • Horse Racing: Taking place in the Hippodrome, charioteers and riders display their exceptional command over their steeds.
  • Gymnastics: Athletes compete in rhythmic routines, artistic gymnastics, and traditional routines on parallel bars and rings.
  • Foot Races: From the swift sprint of the Stadion to the grueling long-distance of the Dolichos, the foot races test the mettle of the finest runners.
  • Archery: Precision and patience are key as archers aim for the bullseye in this hallowed event.

Unique Features

The Realm of Order ensures that every participant, Saved or Damned, competes on an even playing field. Powerful wards are erected to negate any magical advantages, and rigorous tests ensure that no one gets an unfair edge. The games, in essence, represent the spirit of pure, unadulterated competition.

Closing Ceremony: As the games draw to a close, victors are crowned with laurel wreaths, honoring the ancient traditions. There’s a grand feast, where all participants, irrespective of their standings, celebrate the spirit of the games. As the final day dawns, the gates of the Realm of Order gradually start to close, enveloping the ethereal land in its serene solitude until they open again for the next games.

For those few weeks, amidst the competition and camaraderie, the Realm of Order doesn't just showcase sports; it opens a window into a time of classical magnificence, reminding everyone of the enduring spirit of human achievement.

The Realm of Order, with its unwavering devotion to structure and discipline, certainly knows how to put on a grand spectacle for the Olympics. Yet, beneath the meticulously choreographed ceremonies and grand architectures lies a deep-rooted desire to present an idealized image of their domain, hiding any imperfections.

The Airport Facade:

On arrival, the athletes, coaches, and journalists are greeted at an architectural marvel that mimics a turn-of-the-century airport. The shiny terrazzo floors, the overhead flip-board flight status displays, retro seating areas, and staff dressed in vintage uniforms all paint a picture of a time gone by. The addition of a seaplane strip, inspired by Milan's Idroscalo, however, is a concession to the prevalent mode of transport in the world outside.

For many, the airport itself becomes a subject of fascination. But the fascinating thing is not just the architecture; it's the flawless operation. Every flight arrives and departs on time. Every announcement is crisp and clear. Every baggage claim belt works seamlessly. It's a showcase of Order's operational efficiency.

Controlled Freedom:

While visitors are told they can explore the Realm freely, in practice, their time is tightly managed. Journalists find themselves attending scheduled press conferences, guided tours, and curated interviews. Athletes, on the other hand, have their days filled with practice sessions, promotional events, and health check-ups. The Realm is keen to ensure that outsiders don't wander off into areas they'd rather keep private.

Any attempt to stray from the schedule is met with polite yet firm redirections. "Oh, that area is currently under renovation," or "We have a special event planned for you there tomorrow!" are common refrains heard by those trying to venture off the beaten path.

The Hidden Reality:

Behind the scenes, the reality might be starkly different. Areas hidden from visitors could paint a different picture – perhaps there are areas that aren't as pristine, or locals who aren't as content with their regimented lives. The guided tours, while informative, always follow the same routes, showcasing the same highlights. The repeated stories of greatness, while inspiring, start feeling rehearsed after a while.

For many journalists, the challenge becomes deciphering what's genuine from what's staged. While some take the presented narrative at face value, others become more determined to uncover the truth, digging deeper, asking tougher questions, and seeking unofficial sources.

In essence, while the Realm of Order's Olympic spectacle is undeniably impressive, the discerning eye can spot the layers of orchestrated perfection, understanding that true order always hides a hint of chaos underneath.
