Born to a Glantrian mother that had been kidnapped by orks. Her mother escaped and made it to Izwald, where she raised Juniper while doing odd jobs. Juniper got into many fights and brawls as she grew older, and eventually learned to fight quite well, and perform tricks with her whip. She would often take up street fighting, and earned some coin and notoriety from it.
This was all well and good until she pissed off someone she shouldn't, and was ambushed by thugs he had paid off. She lost both of her arms while trying to defend herself, but succeeded in driving off one of the thugs, permanently wounding the other. Unfortunately, the one she wounded was a soldier, and so she was taken to the holding cells until they could figure out the story of who really attacked first.
As she was getting ready to leave after being cleared of any crime, Juniper ran into Milktea returning with the mechanical limbs from Near's childhood room. Learning of the IFB's plans to replicate these limbs and outfit special soldiers with them, she volunteered for service, eager to replace the arms she was recently deprived of.
