ReligionThe "default" religion in North America is some form of Christianity - however no one denomination has a majority, even lumping major Protestant denominations together. The Mormon Church has managed to keep Utah together and is the primary political force in the religious realm. Jews are tolerated, but tend to stick together (Note that in this setting there was no WW2 and no Holocaust!). Native Americans have weathered the decline better than people of European descent; a number of communities practice variations of the Nanissáanah (Ghost Dance), synchretised with Christian and preexisting beliefs. New Mexico and Arizona are home to cults of Aztec deities synchretised with Catholic saints. Objectivism is a specifically anti-religious movement that advocates rebuilding society on libertarian lines, and its adherents take it as seriously as they would a religion. The Holnists practice a form of henotheism that indicates that each racial group has a God (and theirs is, of course, superior). One thing that is important to note is that the social implications of religion has changed after civil society fell over: A number of communities reorganized around churches, to the point that they are almost theocracies, with a bishop-lord (or whatever they style themselves at; there's a surprising presence of bishop-ladies) in charge. |
