EnotriaRepublic of Enotria While the Cricca has its origins and headquarters in Enotria, in spite of this (or in the minds of some scholars because of it) violent crime in Enotria is fairly low, the patterns of behaviour and 'respect' are sufficiently entrenched that there is little need for disruption; matters tend to be settled with fists rather than blades or launchers... or words, come to think of it. ("Thief? Me? Of course not. I'd happily pay for things if only people would ask me to. It's wonderful to live somewhere that people show each other respect.") Enotria's relations with its subordinate cantons is somewhat erratic. While the Republic officially governs them, it is without a doubt the Cricca which rules. Simply put, a policeman identifies themselves to you before putting the boot in, and has to tell you what you are charged with. A Cricca enforcer will almost certainly tell you what offense you have committed, but by the time you are aware that they -are- a Cricca enforcer, doubtless you already know. The fact that Enotria's intra-canton network of frequent (one cannot say 'regular') subsidized small and medium passenger and cargo ships has ships regularly arriving as much as a day ahead or behind schedule is quietly a laughing stock of many nations. Visitors to the region are advised to bring a healthy appetite, a flexible approach to time management, and either good manners or visible bodyguards. Enotrian merchant vessels quite commonly end up picking up Tsuxian refugees, attempting to put them to work on the ship to pay their passage to wherever they get dropped off often gives whatever custody they are delivered into some idea if not of their skills and capacities, how well they can follow simple orders. This tradition gives them a lax immigration policy compared to other cantons. (Stereotype: Italian/Spanish) |
