MuaraeMuarae This very low-lying land barely emerges above the deeps, and miasma storms are all too common. The main reason why it is inhabited at all lies in the fact that many small metal deposits are exposed to the air -- Land Muarae is thought to have been a mountain that was cleaved in two horizontally during the Invasion. Muarae is a caldera with periodic seismic activity that rearrange the rock, requiring new prospecting every time -- settlements are perforce temporary, and the land itself is politically contested. The only permanent settlement, built on the land's only stable tectonic plate, is politically neutral by treaty and hosts a great temple to Faustus. Muarae has been disputed by almost all cantons within reach, but its harsh environment make holding it while defending against another force practically imposible; over the years, a sort of multipart truce has emerged, and the end of the Big War formalized it.
