900 years into the Millennium

THE EARTH once again teems with millions of people, and the end of the Millennium looks quite different from the beginning. Cities other than New Jerusalem exist again, and while the Earth continues to give of its endless fertility under the canopied sky, industry has returned to the world. Television and radio has come back to blanket the world in gossamer strands, and even computer networks are making a resurgence -- the average desktop computer is fully eight times as powerful as its pre-Appearing counterpart, and mobile technology is mature and widespread for voice calls and beginning to be a thing for data as well.

Jesus remains in His temple, now the centre of a vast metropolis that towers literally and figuratively over the world. The Other Light, hundreds of thousands strong, grows bolder; their printing presses and electronically transmitted messages blanket the globe, recruiting new members, and there are rumors of TOL amassing a weapons stockpile and training a fighting force a thousand times bigger than had been aggregated for the Battle of Armageddon 900 years before. Of course they are all younger than one hundred and thus relegated to the status of children—rebellious, articulate, passionate, defiant, furious children. But they are also brilliant and had written songs and poems and speeches anticipating the day their leader, the Other Light personified, would be—in their words—“foolishly released” by his captor.

Outside of the cities, the rural rythm continues as it has for centuries, with good peace of most of the people living there; a few roads got paved, homes got more comfortable with generations of use, but things have not changed significantly; people work the fields as their fathers did, except that now tractors tend to have air conditioning and occasionally run on solar power.

National identities have resurfaced somewhat, although the Earth still has a common, pure language and currencies are pegged to each other; electronic transactions remain the exception, perhaps because they are too close to Carpathia's cashless system, and Jesus manages the economy by intercession.

It is still true that nonbelievers die at 100, but measures have been taken to mitigate the problem whenever possible.
