KingdomsThe Empire, the major Breakaway Kingdoms, and their Flags Flags (attached to a mast, painted to a panel, or broadcast out of a VDU) are essential to discern ships in space; most wartime conventions do not apply to combatants who do not fly a flag or perform false flag operations. Pirates and Mags tend to fly their family's coat of arms out of pride or to increase their notoriety. The standard Imperial flag, used by local forces with in Imperial space. This emblem is also present on Imperial coins. The flags of the various Imperial Regimental Fleets. The Fleets are remarkably autonomous, and there have been situations in the past where they engaged each other. Under Robertus' relatively strong rule, this is not likely to happen any time soon. Each Fleet has a home system which is administered by the Fleet Admiral-General to serve its needs, usually through a governor or rear admiral. Admiral Bela Saurus's flag - note the craters, each indicating a successful fleet engagement. Bela Saurus' detachment was uniquely given permission to fly a modified Blue Fleet flag by Emperor Dagobert, and Emperor Robertus confirmed the privilege. A large minority within the Imperial court is worried about Bela Saurus's successes, and fear that he will break the Blue Fleet away from the Empire, so there is always the chance that he may be recalled and lose his commission. Flag of the True Imperians (note the N). This breakaway kingdom seceded from the Empire (rather, they claim that the Empire seceded from them) upon the Scourge Lord's ascension, managed to keep the Scourge Lord at bay through tremendous sacrifice, and refused to rejoin the "tainted" Empire afterwards. They put great emphasis on tradition, with all the good and bad that this implies. Due to how the split happened, they have a larger fleet than their economic base would indicates, the successor of the Imperial White Fleet. Stannell VII is more or less in charge as Imperator. Dark Lord Stra-Kuhl's flag. In order to cling on to some amount of sanity after the personality overlay, Stra-Kuhl has embraced the aesthetic of the worst excesses of the Scourge Lord's reign of terror, but is actually a reasonably competent administrator (if one excuses the theatrics) and a fair if stern ruler. Flag of the Phoenix Republic. The Phoenicians have little industrial or military might on their own, but are master traders and dealers and maintain the largest registry of letters of marque in the galaxy. This emblem is also present on Republic coins. Kingdom of Low Rule flag. The name denotes their pride in being an elective monarchy after the hereditary governors of their predecessor state, the Kingdom of High Rule, degenerated into inbreeding. At the time, they were so low on resources that they had to flip their existing flags and iconography rather than commission new ones. Count Zarth-Arn's flag. The renegade Count, exiled after losing his position as the Scourge Lord's sycophant and psionic backup, has carved out a small autocracy in the Periphery which acts as a safe haven of sorts for slavers and pirates. He considers himself the Scourgelord's true heir and thus Stra-Kuhl's rival; the other Dark Lord is pointedly ignoring him. Flag of the Magmatrons. These hardy high-gravity-world humanoids boast supreme resilience, rock-infused skin, great cultural integrity, and a deep hatred of those who call them Midgetrons. Mags will usually fly their clan's coat of arms as well. Flag and fleet emblem of the Black Lance. The Black Lance is a transplanetary organization dedicated to purity of essence. Adherents exist on most worlds, but they control very little territory, preferring to base in large asteroid bases rather than planets. The large flag is new and has been adopted as official by the few worlds that have been "purified", usually by mass relocation. While their manifesto indicates that they are for racial separation and not racial supremacy, their policies are visibly humanoids-first. A growing threat in recent years. Flag of the constellation of Kalradia. This loose union of highly fractious kingdoms has been known to come together with great ferocity when an external enemy appears. Unique in that the tightly-coupled star systems that constitute the constellation are recognizable from afar from most of the galaxy. The Zardoz Conclave style themselves to be a kingdom of philosophers and, surprisingly, more or less manage to fit the bill. However, it's interesting that they are the only successor state that allow the Imperian Inquisition to operate as if they were in their home territory. Nevertheless, their patronage of study and meditation is unmatched. The "standard" pirate flag. Every pirate family has their own coat of arms, of course, but they will generally hoist this flag and transmit it on video if they are issuing ultimatums. The color scheme is easy to recognize and the logo comes across clearly even on low-resolution monochrome displays. |
