SampleRigs

These are some common rig models in use throughout the Slipstream -- rigs can be modified to suit their owners, of course, and most existing small and big rigs come close to the specifications of one of the sample rigs listed here.

Economy single-seater rig

Model Name: Ison Velocifer
Base Band: Medium
Speed 100
Flank Speed 130
Range 120

Stats:
Hits x (1 base + 2 armor + 0 perk + 0 power) (this will need a lot of work)

Power3Maneuverability4Resilience2
Synchro0Layout3Detection1
Comfort1Luck3Attunement4

Threshold : Res+Det=[3]
Timing : Sync+Lay=[3]
Combat Movement : Power+Maneuverability=[7]
Special Functions (SYN-2): None
Traits: Flickerable - This rig is small enough that it can mount a ballistic parachute, but loses in carrying capacity. Easy Ejection - Due to crew positioning, escaping a downed aircraft is quick and risk-free, however, efficiency suffers.
Weapons: One bolter slot or one contact weapon slot.
Backstory: The Velocifer is a simple single-seater known for its customizability and cheapness. It can be used for crop dusting small fields, hopping to a nearby land for errands, and light courier duty. Easy availability of parts makes it very easy to mod; Velos are commonly used in races due to their forgiveness, ease of ejection, and low cost. A running joke is that the Tsuxi Talon has been reverse-engineered from crashed Velocifers.
Price: 100Kt new, as much as a quarter that used. If you find one for less than that, be sure to invest the money you save into a good flicker!

Tsuxian Interceptor

Model Name: Swift Talon
Base Band: Medium
Speed 100
Flank Speed 150
Range 50

Stats:
Hits x (1 base + 2 armor + 0 perk + 0 power) (this will need a lot of work)

Power3Maneuverability4Resilience1
Synchro0Layout1Detection1
Comfort1Luck3Attunement2

Threshold : Res+Det=[3]
Timing : Sync+Lay=[1]
Combat Movement : Power+Maneuverability=[7]
Special Functions (SYN-2): None
Traits: Flickerable - This rig is small enough that it can mount a ballistic parachute, but loses in carrying capacity. Easy Ejection - Due to crew positioning, escaping a downed aircraft is quick and risk-free, however, efficiency suffers.
Weapons: One bolter slot and one contact weapon slot.
Backstory: The Talon is the sort of rig only Tsuxia can afford to field -- these mass produced rocket-engined interceptor can only take a few passes on an enemy, but make up for their lack of flexibility in sheer numbers. Their "liquid fuel motor" is in fact a gel mixture of flour, vegetable oil and black powder, but this doesn't stop the Tsuxians to claim ownership of a new technology. Talons are always ready to launch from ramp built into Tsuxian walls and a magnum launch is a sight to behold; their short range and rudimentary landing gear makes them generally unsuitable for use as ship-launched fighters. A running joke is that the Tsuxi Talon has been reverse-engineered from crashed Velocifers.
Price: Unknown, estimated 50Kt

Economy three-seater rig

Model Name: Oriole OA-12
Base Band: Medium
Speed 105
Flank Speed 115
Range 260

Stats:
Hits x (2 base + 2 armor + 0 perk + 0 power) (this will need a lot of work)

Power2Maneuverability3Resilience2
Synchro1Layout2Detection1
Comfort1Luck3Attunement2

Threshold : Res+Det=[3]
Timing : Sync+Lay=[3]
Combat Movement : Power+Maneuverability=[5]
Special Functions (SYN-2): None
Traits: Common Model - This rig is easy to repair due to standardized or easily available parts, however this makes fine tuning more difficult.
Weapons: Two bolter slots.
Backstory: Orioles have been built for almost a hundred years. Despite being quite inefficient for their size, they're large enough to allow small traders to take their wares to the market and farmers to cropdust their field - they can even carry passengers and their kit. The Cascadian variant is the smallest rig that can be used in shirtsleeves in the northern lands. If they have enough runway, they can tow a glider.
Price: 600Kt new, but the used market is thriving.

Courier two-seater rig

Model Name: Toucan MkIV
Base Band: Medium
Speed 130
Flank Speed 140
Range 220

Stats:
Hits x (1 base + 2 armor + 0 perk + 0 power) (this will need a lot of work)

Power3Maneuverability2Resilience1
Synchro0Layout2Detection2
Comfort1Luck3Attunement3

Threshold : Res+Det=[3]
Timing : Sync+Lay=[2]
Combat Movement : Power+Maneuverability=[5]
Special Functions (SYN-2): None
Traits: Flickerable - This rig is small enough that it can mount a ballistic parachute, but loses in carrying capacity. Flying Boat - This rig can land on water, snow or sand, but suffers a maneuverability penalty..
Weapons: Two wing slots, each can hold ne bolter slot or one contact weapon.
Backstory: The Toucan is manufactured in Pasqualis and is designed to provide a balance between performance and range for one or two travelers; it's a popular courier rig due to its flexibility, although it is famously flimsy. It does not have double controls to save on mechanical complexity, so landing is advised between piloting turns. It can carry three people, depending on who (comfort drops to 0 in that case).
Price: 150Kt new, the somewhat rare all-weather version sells for around 200Kt.

Single-seater high performance interceptor

Model Name: Varius FP-55 Viking
Base Band: Medium
Speed 185
Flank Speed 220
Range 80

Stats:
Hits x (2 base + 1 armor + 0 perk + 0 power) (this will need a lot of work)

Power4Maneuverability5Resilience2
Synchro2Layout2Detection2
Comfort1Luck3Attunement3

Threshold : Res+Det=[4]
Timing : Sync+Lay=[4]
Combat Movement : Power+Maneuverability=[9]
Special Functions (SYN-2): None
Traits: Canard - This rig needs high piloting skill to be used, but gains in maneuverability. Hard Ejection - Due to crew positioning, escaping a downed aircraft is particularly dangerous; this makes for better aerodynamics.
Weapons: Two bolter slots and two contact weapon slots.
Backstory: The Viking is quite possibly the best interceptor available to the open market, and is often seen accompanying convoys or doing short-range CAP duties on small lands. This short range fighter is not designed to operate far from its base, which generally gives Viking pilots an extra incentive to make sure they have one to return to!
Price: 5Mt

Fighter-bomber rig with turret

Model Name: Fairlane Longsword
Base Band: Medium
Speed 100
Flank Speed 120
Range 220

Stats:
Hits x (2 base + 1 armor + 1 perk + 0 power) (this will need a lot of work)

Power2Maneuverability3Resilience2
Synchro1Layout2Detection3
Comfort2Luck3Attunement2

Threshold : Res+Det=[5]
Timing : Sync+Lay=[2]
Combat Movement : Power+Maneuverability=[5]
Special Functions (SYN-2): None
Traits: Biplane - This rig can try to go home on three wings, but has a lower speed for its power rating. Turret - This rig has multiple firing arcs despite being of small size, at the expense of speed.
Weapons: Two bolter slots, one turreted bolter slot, one mine slot, one ballista slot.
Backstory: Longswords are the mainstay Cascadian patrol fighters; having a separate pilot and observer makes patrols easier, and the rear turret has a good sweep range (and an interruptor to avoid shooting at the tail). Their ability to carry heavier ammunition makes them able to take on small ships without bomber support, and their airframe plan makes them good loiterers.
Price: 2Mt

High altitude observation rig

Model Name: Foxwolf-189 Monitor
Base Band: High
Speed 120
Flank Speed 135
Range 400

Stats:
Hits x (1 base + 1 armor + 0 perk + 0 power) (this will need a lot of work)

Power3Maneuverability1Resilience1
Synchro3Layout2Detection4
Comfort2Luck3Attunement2

Threshold : Res+Det=[5]
Timing : Sync+Lay=[5]
Combat Movement : Power+Maneuverability=[4]
Special Functions (SYN-2): Synchro sights: This rig has gyrostabilized binoculars or telescopes to allow discerning details and deciphering messages at great distances, and precision bomb drops.
Traits: Beacon - This rig has extended communications range. It's also easier to locate! This trait can be turned on and off at will. Glider - This rig can extend its range by operating at low speeds. This sacrifices maneuverability.
Weapons: One bolter slot and one bomb bay.
Backstory: The Monitor is a Bergstrassian design, although it is not used much in service of its native land. An excellent spotter and loiterer, the Monitor is occasionally used for courier work due to its ability to drop a payload with high precision and to make use of fast high-sky winds.
Price: 1.5Mt

Single-seater gyro rig

Model Name: Benzino B-8 Vespa
Base Band: Medium
Speed 70
Flank Speed 95
Range 75

Stats:
Hits x (1 base + 0 armor + 0 perk + 0 power) (this will need a lot of work)

Power1Maneuverability4Resilience1
Synchro0Layout1Detection2
Comfort1Luck3Attunement4

Threshold : Res+Det=[5]
Timing : Sync+Lay=[4]
Combat Movement : Power+Maneuverability=[5]
Traits: Flickerable - This rig is small enough that it can mount a ballistic parachute, but loses in carrying capacity. Gyroplane - This rig can hover in place for short periods of time, land vertically, and take off with little room. The large rotor makes ejection dangerous.
Special Functions (SYN-2): None
Weapons: None, but it doesn't stop people from improvising.
Backstory: Common wisdom has it that every Enotrian has flown a Vespa at least once in their lives -- this may well be true. This little gyroplane boasts remarkable fuel efficiency and is set up to be used as a ground vehicle, which makes Enotrian streets even more chaotic than they are normally. Due to its tiny size, it can carry no passengers and hopping to a different land with it is considered a major undertaking that needs advance planning; despite this, it's a popular rental rig in lands that allow its in-land use. Very noisy, hence the name. The builders have no relation to the bygone dictator, incidentally.
Price: 120Kt new, but like the Velocifer, there is a thriving used market.

Economy big rig

Base Band: Medium
Speed 90
Flank Speed 100
Range 400

Stats:
Hits x (2 base + 0 armor + 0 perk + 0 power) (this will need a lot of work)

Power2Maneuverability1Resilience3
Synchro0Layout2Detection1
Comfort2Luck4Attunement4

Threshold : Res+Det=[4]
Timing : Sync+Lay=[2]
Combat Movement : Power+Maneuverability=[3]
Traits: Easy Ejection - Due to crew positioning, escaping a downed aircraft is quick and risk-free, however, efficiency suffers.
Special Functions (SYN-2): None
Weapons: Two bolter slots and one heavy bolter slot, semi-fixed forward mount on a transom.
Backstory: The Tarsus was designed as a cheap, mass produceable land-hopper cargo and troop transport rig for a second Big War that fortunately never happened. When the Black Lance Incident came to a close, production lines had already been set up and contracts drawn, various militaries always mindful of their mistakes in the last conflict. When the whole thing simmered down, Tarsus-class designs of various namings and differing details flooded the surplus markets and for a long time were a mainstay of fledgling cargo companies and even pirate groups; the Tarsus, never employed in wartime, enjoyed a long service life as a "merchant scout" used for jobs too small to justify a ship. Able to land on unimproved fields that would ordinarily require tugboats or rotorcraft, the Tarsus has earned its retirement and most examples of this once-common craft are now kept as hangar mascots, although it does see a use as a camper van -- a chartreuse Tarsus in microbus configuration is mentioned in the song Convoy, after all -- and skydiver carrier. The reduction in price and increase in reliability of nonbuoyant and semibuoyant rotorcraft has deprived the Tarsus of its niche, and pretty soon this once-familiar sight will live on only in moving pictures and tall tales.
Price: 1.2Mt new, at the time; used it can cost as little as a decent three-seater, if you can find it

Modular coach big rig

Model Name: Polaris CC-120
Base Band: Medium
Speed 100
Flank Speed 105
Range 600

Stats:
Hits x (2 base + 0 armor + 0 perk + 0 power) (this will need a lot of work)

Power2Maneuverability2Resilience3
Synchro1Layout2Detection1
Comfort3Luck3Attunement3

Threshold : Res+Det=[4]
Timing : Sync+Lay=[3]
Combat Movement : Power+Maneuverability=[4]
Traits: Modular - This rig can accept standard cargo or passenger modules. Common Model - This rig is easy to repair due to standardized or easily available parts, however this makes fine tuning more difficult.
Special Functions (SYN-2): None
Weapons: Two bolter slots on two side turrets. The coach may carry weapons.
Backstory: The CC-120 is one of many big rigs designed around the ability to carry a coach wagon; this speeds up loading and unloading operations and due to the fixed volume and cargo capacity, cuts down on contract negotiations significantly. The 120 flies well without the coach and does not require a dummy coach for stability like the Kingston-Smith PL7 does. Cargo rigs that travel the upper and lower skies tend to be fine-tuned for their environment and not use coaches, but the CC-120 and all others like it provide a robust backbone of short range transportation.
Price: 4Mt, the camper version with a living-quarters coach costs 5Mt

City-hopper passenger gyro big rig

Model Name: Fairlane Rotodyne
Base Band: Medium
Speed 80
Flank Speed 90
Range 400

Stats:
Hits x (2 base + 0 armor + 0 perk + 0 power) (this will need a lot of work)

Power1Maneuverability3Resilience2
Synchro1Layout1Detection1
Comfort3Luck3Attunement2

Threshold : Res+Det=[3]
Timing : Sync+Lay=[2]
Combat Movement : Power+Maneuverability=[4]
Traits: Gyroplane - This rig can hover in place for short periods of time, land vertically, and take off with little room. The large rotor makes ejection dangerous.
Special Functions (SYN-2): None
Weapons: Two bolter slots on two side turrets.
Backstory: Rotodynes are used for interland travel in Cascadia and other northern lands; they react poorly to sand and storms, but have the undeniable advantage of not needing a runway and thus being able to fly in airfields that would otherwise support only small rigs. Oddly enough, Tsuxians have a similar vehicle called a Sky Ranger that they use for special forces and exquisition deployment. Partly due to this, the Rotodyne is not very popular outside its native canton.
Price: 8Mt

Torpedo bomber big rig

Model Name: A-K7 Fire Storm
Base Band: Medium
Speed 80
Flank Speed 100
Range 420

Stats:
Hits x (2 base + 2 armor + 1 perk + 0 power) (this will need a lot of work)

Power1Maneuverability2Resilience4
Synchro1Layout1Detection2
Comfort1Luck3Attunement2

Threshold : Res+Det=[6]
Timing : Sync+Lay=[2]
Combat Movement : Power+Maneuverability=[3]
Traits: Redundant Engines - This rig can operate normally without an engine. However, attunement is decreased.
Special Functions (SYN-2): None
Weapons: One torpedo slot (with two reloads, so six torpedos in all) per pontoon. Two bolter slots on each turret (top, sides, front, rear).
Backstory: The Tsuxi Fire Storm is one of the rare purely military big rigs in existence. It is tough enough to take on an airship by itself and limp home afterwards, can hold fighters at bay while it lines up for a torpedo run, and has enough agility to dodge many of the things big enough to harm it. Outside Tsuxia, big rigs like the Fire Storm haven't been used since the Big War; they had to be launched from a "jeep carrier" airship that wasn't much more than a balloon at the last moment possible, and generally have to return to a land after an engagement -- an airship on which a heavy bomber can land on would by that simple fact almost qualify as a heighliner.
Price: 50Mt estimated

Mining support big rig

Model Name: Lun-14 Charon
Base Band: Low
Speed 105
Flank Speed 110
Range 380

Stats:
Hits x (2 base + 2 armor + 0 perk + 0 power) (this will need a lot of work)

Power3Maneuverability2Resilience2
Synchro3Layout2Detection1
Comfort2Luck3Attunement1

Threshold : Res+Det=[3]
Timing : Sync+Lay=[5]
Combat Movement : Power+Maneuverability=[5]
Traits: Redundant Engines - This rig can operate normally without an engine. However, attunement is decreased. Beacon - This rig has extended communications range. It's also easier to locate! This trait can be turned on and off at will.
Special Functions (SYN-2): Life Support - This rig has a limited ability to generate its own internal atmosphere, in addition to being pressurized.
Weapons: One ballista slot. Two bolter slots for each side turret. Armored wings count as sword foils.
Backstory: The Charon is a dedicated low flyer with deep landing capabilities, employed by mining business and salvage operators. Designed to resupply mining operations and retrieve crystals when having an airship loiter overhead would be impractical or dangerous, the Charon has also proven its worth for crew rescue. The Charon's weapons are generally optimized to deal with deep life.
Price: 10Mt
